Help us to shape the future
We have started using catchment management to offset nitrate contained in the effluent
discharged from Dorchester’s sewage treatment works.
The aim is to reduce the amount of nitrogen entering Poole Harbour by 40 tonnes of nitrogen per year by 2020.
By working with farmers to reduce agriculturally derived nitrate from the catchment, we hope to avoid building an expensive and less sustainable nitrate removal plant at Dorchester sewage treatment works.
We work with the farmers in a targeted area of the Poole Harbour catchment to:
Within the Poole Harbour catchment, there are Groundwater Safeguard Zones where we also work with farmers to protect drinking water quality.

We have developed a unique and innovative trading platform called EnTrade.
This provides an easy to use online platform that will allow farmers to bid for funding.
