Support WaterAid

2008 is the UN international year of sanitation, this provides Wessex Water with a great opportunity to celebrate its support of the charity WaterAid with a unique campaign called ‘Wessex for West Africa’ working with WaterAid.

WaterAid’s mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. WaterAid enables the world’s poorest people to gain access to these essential services, which are the basic human rights that underpin health, education and livelihoods and form the first, essential step in overcoming poverty.

The ‘Wessex for West Africa’ campaign allows a year of heightened activity that will both raise the profile and awareness of issues of water and sanitation in developing countries and also raise vital funds for water and sanitation projects in West Africa.

Since its support for WaterAid began, Wessex Water’s staff, customers and contractors have raised over £8million for WaterAid helping to bring clean, safe water, adequate sanitation and hygiene education to over half a million people living in extreme poverty. That’s the equivalent to more than 3 times the approximate population of the Bath & North East Somerset district.

Wessex Water welcomes the partnerships with nine contractors, consultants and suppliers who have committed to helping raise funds for the ‘Wessex for West Africa’ campaign over the next 12 months.
