Repairing the trenchless way

Trenchless or ‘no-dig’ technology involves repairing our assets without having to dig down and create a trench along troubled sections of pipeline.

It is a quick process which avoids the need for extensive roadworks.

Sewers are accessed through small holes and repaired with the help of robots and CCTV equipment.

The reconstruction below provides you with an insight into Softlining or Cast In Place Pipeline (CIPP) which is being used to renovate sewers throughout our region.

The process involves feeding long flexible tubes made of Polyester felt and resin into the sewer.

Once inside the liner is cured or heated using hot water which sets the resin leaving a newly formed pipe inside the old sewer.

Finally to reconnect drains to the sewer robots with CCTV equipment are sent down the pipe to open up the connections and check all the work has been completed to the highest standard.

Soft liners are used regularly when we carry out sewer renovation work to prevent groundwater entering the system, stop tree roots infiltrating the pipe, reduce blockages and even in extreme cases prevent sewers from collapsing.
