Weymouth water supply improvements
Around £1.5 million will be spent between 2010 and 2011 to replace or reline water mains in Weymouth to reduce the likelihood of supply interruptions and provide a reliable supply of water for future generations.
To work out which mains need replacing samples of water pipes, some more than 100 years old, along many traffic sensitive routes were tested and local geology analysed to identify life expectancy.
We have already laid 1,200 metres of new water mains in Littlemoor Road in the town and work is underway to renew further stretches of water mains.
A very old main in Manor Road in Weymouth is being replaced and further work will be carried out in other areas including the Esplanade.
Additional investment over the past decade on leakage reduction has improved water efficiency and work this year to upgrade a strategic booster at Newstead Road will help maintain supplies.
How will the work affect you?
Where water mains that need replacing or renewing run under roads we may need to use traffic management to carry out the work. This may involve traffic lights or road closures.
When we connect new sections of water main to the water supply network there may be interruptions to your water supply. However, we will always provide you with 48 hours notice of any planned disruptions.
