Doulting sewerage work

We are upgrading part of the sewerage system near Shepton Mallet as part of a £1.1m scheme.

A new sewer is being built and Doulting sewage treatment works decommissioned.

The work is being carried out because there is no longer the capacity at the treatment works to serve the increase in population the area has seen over recent years.

The new sewer is being laid mainly in fields to connect the sewerage network in Doulting with Shepton Mallet sewage treatment works which will treat more of the area’s wastewater.

The work is already underway and expected to be completed by early November 2010.

Joe Edmunds, of Wessex Water, said: “Doulting sewage treatment works has served the area for many years, but due to a rise in the local population it no longer has enough capacity.

“We have devised a scheme that ensures sewage is safely taken away to be treated for the foreseeable future.”
