Training and development

Our vision

Our aim is to make the most of employees' skills, knowledge and potential with widespread understanding of how sustainability applies to the company.

What steps are needed to achieve this?

Upskilling coursesWe believe we need to:

  • ensure staff have the skills they need to deal with different aspects of our work, complemented by effective work management processes
  • provide staff with development and learning
  • partner with other companies and industries to build a pool of talent
  • include training in sustainable development and how it relates to our business as a core part of staff development
  • allocate sustainability objectives, targets and actions to specific managers.

Where are we now?

Our employees are central to our business. Staff operate and maintain our assets, provide good customer service and resolve any problems as they occur.

To do this they need training and development to ensure they have the right skills and knowledge to do their job.

To help meet these objectives, we have:

  • an in-house learning and development team, who offer a range of NVQ, apprenticeships, training schemes and general developmental support
  • a structured programme for graduates to gain chartership with the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management and other professional qualifications
  • a structured leadership training programme to provide management and coaching skills to managers and supervisors
  • an upskilling programme, with training on new processes and equipment
  • environmental training to improve staff awareness of the environment and overall sustainable development, eg, when undertaking construction.
