Our vision

We aim to avoid the generation of waste and, where produced, to manage it effectively and responsibly through reuse and recycling activities.

What does this mean?

In our strategic direction statement we set the challenging aspiration of zero waste to landfill where practicable. How are we going to try and move in the right direction? We believe we need to:

• make reduction, reuse and recycling of excess materials a central part of the design, construction and operation of our assets
• work with other businesses and organisations to build the market for recyclable and reclaimed materials
• link to our work on sustainable procurement, such as extending take-back schemes.

Where are we now?

Our business operations generate various forms of waste, especially within our new development activities.

• Some of this waste is currently sent to landfill.
• We are undertaking investigations to avoid generating waste, or to reuse and recycle it.
• We are continuing our review of our waste management practice, along with internal training for staff.
