Sustainability panel

It’s essential we obtain an outside view of what we do and, if necessary, that we are questioned on our actions.

The sustainability panel was set up to monitor all sustainability issues affecting our business, as well as our stakeholder engagement.

Containing external experts, the panel is encouraged to challenge our ideas and proposals, provide feedback and, where necessary, criticise our approach.

It meets three times each year and reports to our board via its chair, Jonathon Porritt.

What is discussed and who is involved?

Discussions during 2009-10 ranged from our renewable energy generation, greenhouse gas emissions and the Carbon Reduction Commitment’s Energy Efficiency Scheme to community work and biodiversity, with the panel comprising:

Janet Barber – independent environmental consultant

Professor Chris Bartlett – University College London

Lesley Bennett – non-executive customer director, Wessex Water

Simon Cooper – The CSR Consultancy

Julian Dennis – director of compliance and sustainability, Wessex Water

Dan Green – sustainability planning manager, Wessex Water

David Elliott, director of regulation and assets, Wessex Water

Professor Anil Markandya – University of Bath

Jonathon Porritt – Forum for the Future and non-executive director, Wessex Water

Colin Skellett – executive chairman, Wessex Water.
