Wild Watch - issue 3

Welcome to the summer 2010 edition of Wild Watch.

Red shankContinuing the theme of introducing the environmental teams in Wessex Water, this edition focuses on our small but perfectly formed river ecology team. To fish and other aquatic species, this team is literally stunning!

Having recently written articles for the British Wildlife journal, we review their work on the Hampshire Avon.

The water industry works in five year cycles with investment determined by our economic regulator, Ofwat.

As we head into our next five year period known as AMP5 (2010-2015), this issue features many of the new projects which have commenced in April and will be running over the five year period.

We have some good news on investment for biodiversity with two key projects starting which will kick off our contribution to the International Year of Biodiversity.

Also starting this spring is a series of environmental investigations into a wide range of water resource and river impacts and we provide a rundown of what we’ll be investigating in the next five years.

Our successful Partners Programme, which funds biodiversity projects by conservation organisations, also launches into a new round of funding this year.

We have selected seven projects across the region which should receive up to £350,000 of funding by 2015 to benefit species, habitats and knowledge across our region.

Finally, we take a look at another of our best wildlife sites at Sutton Bingham reservoir and also catch up on some of the news stories capturing headlines in the region.

We hope you enjoy this edition, but if you would like to find out more about any of the issues raised or have any questions, please contact us at env.info@wessexwater.co.uk or take a look at the environmental section of the website.
