Gardeners go green with award

An eco-friendly playgroup in Christchurch will now be able to save more water thanks to a cash boost.

Chewton Common Playgroup has received a Watermark award from Wessex Water to buy two water butts to collect water for their vegetable patch and plants.
The group has recently been awarded a Bronze Eco Award for Early Years Setting which recognises good environmental practice.
Helen Dow, of Chewton Common Playgroup, said the children were extremely keen on looking after their garden.
She said: “Our young children are very keen gardeners and collecting rainwater for the vegetables they are growing will help them see the value of water.
“Up until now we had no way of collecting rainwater so we are delighted with our Watermark award.”
The Watermark award provides funds for environmental projects within the Wessex Water area.
Now in its 17th year, it has supported more than 500 initiatives. Organised by the Conservation Foundation, all projects are judged by a panel chaired by its president David Bellamy.
Kerry Fleet, of Wessex Water, presented Chewton Common Playgroup with its £100 Watermark cheque.
