Job description:

Do you have experience in delivering constructed wetlands for environmental gains? Do you have a confident and flexible approach? If so, we have a great opportunity for you.

Wessex Water is one of the top performing water and sewerage companies in the UK, serving 2.8 million customers across the south west of England. It is part of the Wessex Water Group, which comprises a number of other companies alongside our regulated business, including engineering and construction, property development and waste management and renewable energy services.

We have an opportunity within our environment and catchment strategy team for an individual to support the biodiversity and wetland project manager in the delivery of our environmental investigations and performance commitments. You will do this by delivering a number of planned constructed wetlands projects and pulling together a strategy for farm wetlands at the catchment scale.
You will be responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of constructed wetlands to deliver environmental improvements and ensure we meet our environmental obligations. You will also undertake in-field water quality and ecological monitoring to demonstrate the performance and natural capital benefits of constructed wetlands. You will be required to provide quality assurance and will analyse data and report it to the Environment Agency, Natural England and wider stakeholders to achieve project outputs. You will also support the biodiversity and wetland project manager to develop a strategy and identify delivery mechanism(s) leading to water quality improvements through new on-farm wetlands.

To do this you will need to have experience in planning, designing and delivering constructed wetlands, including the ability to undertake the calculations to maximise their performance for nutrient removal and biodiversity gain. You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the design and construction of constructed wetlands and how they can be used to benefit water quality and biodiversity conservation. You will also have a knowledge of environmental legislation, water quality monitoring and data interpretation. Additionally, you will be able to plan and undertake sampling and monitoring programmes to demonstrate the benefits that wetlands offer. You will also have a good understanding of environmental issues relating to the nutrients in farming and waste water and how this can lead to water pollution. You will have good technical report writing skills, the ability to communicate technical information to all levels and good knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing with experience of ArcView GIS. The ability to swim and a driving licence is also required.

In return, we offer a range of benefits including:
* Defined contribution pension scheme.
* 24 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
* Childcare vouchers.
* Cycle2Work scheme.
* Discounts and cashback scheme from more than 1,200 high street and online suppliers.
