  • Durleigh reservoir

    Season: Wednesday 2 January - Monday 23 December 2019

Ideal for the angler seeking to catch carp, pike, bream and roach, Durleigh is the only one of our reservoirs dedicated to day ticket coarse fishing.

With depths of up to eight metres, you can fish from both banks, although there is no fishing from the dam wall itself.

The reservoir is renowned as a superb carp water and while there are a lot of common carp, there are also a good number of mirror carp to be caught. Between 10 and 20 doubles can be caught in the right conditions.

Durleigh carp love boilies and will respond to accurate baiting, with many fish coming at longer range and being caught from all around the reservoir.

In spring and early summer the shallow end can be good, but as the season progresses and the levels drop the fish move into the deeper water towards the dam.

Pike fishing also attracts a lot of interest at Durleigh. Although last season did not produce the excellent results expected after restocking, some anglers did report good catches including some high doubles and the occasional 20.

Fish stocks are currently under review with the likelihood of adding more fish as they become available.

Match anglers have reported seeing a lot of pike activity in the margins throughout the summer and autumn months but the pike will congregate in the deeper water during the winter.

The reservoir is also well regarded for its bream fishing with good average-sized fish. Although most bream fall into the 2lb-5lb range, there are larger specimens approaching double figures.

There is also an abundance of skimmers from under 1lb and up to 2lb and vast shoals of roach that can make up 50lb-80lb nets on their own.

Last season produced some of the best results ever especially for the silver fishing. Steve Kedge brought 33 match anglers to the lake in September 2016 for the renowned Durleigh Festival, a four-day match, where Gary Ireland took the honours netting 233lbs of bream. Gary fished an open-end feeder with worm hook baits.

The carp fishing remains excellent with anglers regularly taking more than a dozen fish per sitting with the likelihood of catching a 20. The biggest fish caught last year was a cracking 32lb 4oz mirror caught in spring 2016 by Nigel Oxford from the lodge site.

Match bookings are welcomed and the nature of the fishing at Durleigh makes it an ideal venue. However, please be aware that we need at least four weeks' notification in order to let other anglers know about bank closures.

Day tickets are available from the self-service kiosk in the fishing lodge.

Dedicated ranger Paul Martin has more than 20 years’ experience at Durleigh. He is a good source of up to date information and the person to speak to for match or pike boat bookings.
