This apprenticeship is suitable as an alternative to university and will help you to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours to work in a high quality construction environment.

As a digital engineer apprentice you will work alongside our in-house design and construction teams, playing a key role in ensuring that the project designs are running to client requirements and compliant with regulations.

You will use digital tools and other software to contribute to our goal of creating a BIM centre of excellence.

This role also involves assisting in the delivery of the design documentation at both outline and detail design stages.

You will develop technical experience within a design and construction role and learn expertise in modern BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes.

BIM software platforms, PAS 1192 and ISO 19650 concepts, are all elements of the job that you will become familiar with.

By the end of your apprenticeship you will be working on four to five projects at any one time.

What will you be doing?

You will be:

  • producing detailed design 3D models from construction drawings and specifications
  • extracting information directly from the model, 2D drawings, pipe schedules, setting out etc.
  • assisting in the delivery of the design documentation at both outline and detail design stages including:
    • calculations and specification
    • 3D block models
    • site layouts
    • hydraulic profiles
    • process flow diagrams
  • analysing and manipulating models and drawings
  • analysing and manipulating base maps and GIS data
  • working in partnership and development with senior engineers and technical managers and with other disciplines and departments through coordination, clash detection and design review workshops
  • communicating accurately with other stakeholders throughout the whole project lifecycle
  • liaising with the construction team to clarify details
  • working within the Common Data Environment (CDE) to enable all project members to access and collaborate on the correct and most recent revisions of construction documents. 

Where will you work?

This role is based at our operations centre in Bath.

What do we look for?

You will need:

  • A levels including maths or a Level 3 technical qualification
  • 5 GCSEs grade C or above including English and maths
  • good communication skills
  • the ability to build working relationships quickly at all levels
  • excellent computer literacy
  • a willingness to learn
  • an interest and desire to develop knowledge and skills in BIM/ 3D modelling.
