Senior Structural Engineer

Are you a Structural Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer looking to further expand and develop your current skill set. If so, we have a unique opportunity for a Structural Engineer to join our In-House Engineering and Sustainable Delivery Design team!

The role

We are one of the top performing water and sewerage companies in the UK, serving 2.8 million customers across the south west of England. Our Engineering and Sustainable Delivery department completes a programme of water treatment, wastewater and network projects across the Wessex Water region. We have a solid pipeline of design and construction work that will take us through to the end of 2025 and beyond.

The role requires being able to undertake structural design and calculations together with the provision of specific investigations. You will also be able to complete permanent designs. Experience in temporary works design would be beneficial.

The team provides technical input and approval for all structural works on the Wessex Water capital programme. This includes structural design and detailing, including the use of concrete, steel, masonry and timber for new permanent works and modifications to existing structures.

The role will also involve checking third party designs, identifying and mitigating risks to our workforce, infrastructure, sites and residential properties. Typical projects include assessing risks to Wessex Water assets to ensure deep or sensitive repairs can be carried out safely.

What do I need

If you join us as a Structural Engineer, you will be expected to work within project teams to help drive the function’s development and provide support to the team and other internal stakeholders. You will be an integral part of a small team of geotechnical and structural engineers.

Irrespective of your level, you will regularly act as a focal point of contact with the construction and utility teams, so you must be confident and effective working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment and be an excellent communicator with all levels of staff from Director to site operative.

Additional requirements:

  • You will have a BEng/BSc in a relevant subject.
  • You will be actively working towards chartership with an appropriate professional institute, eg, MICE or MIStructE.
  • It is essential to have experience in the quantitative and qualitative assessment of existing structures, including designing repair solutions.
  • Both site and office-based experience in the construction sector.
  • Knowledge of temporary works design.
  • Good working knowledge of a range of structural software packages (i.e.AutoCAD, Revit, Robot etc).
  • The ability to manage your own workload?and utilise consultant support where necessary.

We also offer an excellent remuneration package. You will be based in our award-winning offices in Bath but will also be required to regularly attend sites to provide reactive support around the Wessex Water region, so a driving licence is essential.
