It takes great people and great teamwork to provide water and sewerage services to nearly three million customers, 24-hours a day, seven days a week. That’s why we encourage and reward our employees for their contribution to achieving our aims. Our people are of the utmost importance to us and our continued success is built on their commitment, goodwill and performance.

Staff who are helped and supported in maintaining their physical and psychological wellbeing, with protection for our workforce and anyone who may be affected by our daily operations. Equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace – everyone being treated with dignity and respect; and the same opportunity to succeed for all current and potential employees.

A company culture that reflects our values and individuals who are fully engaged in the company’s work and its aims. Staff with the appropriate skills, knowledge and competencies and their potential being realised. A clear remuneration policy that fairly rewards all staff on the basis of their contribution to the business, and helps them to support themselves in retirement. Clear communication to and between staff, resulting in a well-informed workforce.

What we are doing

We place the greatest importance upon health, safety and welfare of all employees and others in the working environment, encouraging a culture that recognises that health and safety is integral to everything we do and is “not an optional extra”. This is achieved through detailed health and safety arrangements and procedures, an accessible occupational health service and employee assistance programme, a confidential helpline, health surveillance, detailed investigations and lessons learnt for all significant accidents or injuries and appropriate training.

Our Wessex Water academy supports all staff at all levels by offering development opportunities and training interventions across the business. A range of technical training is offered to ensure the quality of technical skills is high and the safety of employees is prioritised. The company also encourages and supports the development of soft skills, leadership and management skills, higher education, apprenticeships and membership of professional institutions.

Numerous employee initiatives and projects are already underway across the business as mentioned above. Our new People’s Programme is bringing all these together under one umbrella, and adding new initiatives. The aim of this programme is to make a positive difference to the working life of all employees and build a sustainable workforce for the future using the following pillars: resourcing, talent management, working arrangements, diversity, working better together and wellbeing.
