Metered charges

Metered charges apply to homes that are billed based on how much water they use.

What metered customers pay for

Metered bills are made up of standing charges and volumetric charges.

The standing charge for water supply is a fixed annual charge that goes towards the cost of our customer services. This includes issuing bills, responding to enquiries and maintaining and reading meters.

The standing charge for sewerage includes billing costs and the costs associated with the collection and treatment of rainwater and highway drainage. It varies based on whether the rainwater from a property returns to our sewer. If yours doesn’t, you could be eligible for a rainwater drainage allowance.

Volumetric charges for both water supply and sewerage are based on individual meter readings. You are charged for each cubic metre of water used (per m³). A 5% allowance is automatically applied to the sewerage volumetric charge for water that does not return to our sewers. This covers most household situations, such as evaporation, car washing, drinking, cooking and all garden-related use.
