Funding available for environmental projects

Wessex Water is providing financial support to environmental projects across the south west through our new Environment Fund.

The Environment Fund, which will be open for applications from 3 May to 4 June, will support charitable and community activities across the region that aim to improve their local environment.

The fund forms part of Wessex Water Foundation which was launched last year and provides a dedicated funding stream for charitable and community projects across the region.

To be successful, projects must demonstrate one or more of the following outcomes:

• involve communities in environmental activities that benefit the area
• have a positive impact on the local environment
• educate the local community about supporting the environment.

Kirsty Scarlett, Wessex Water’s Head of Community Engagement, said: "Particular priority will be given to groups that are working to save water, cut the use of single-use plastics, reduce waste or improve local biodiversity 

"The grants will also be targeted at organisations where a small amount of money can make a significant difference. You can apply for up to £1,500 towards project costs, including equipment, salaries and overhead costs.

"The Fund is for voluntary and community groups with charitable aims, registered charities, and community interest companies with an annual income of less than £500,000. Schools and parish councils may also apply as long as they can demonstrate community benefit."

The Wessex Water Foundation plans to provide at least half a million pounds of funding every year to support community projects, local environment projects, debt advice and charities helping those who are suffering the consequences of poverty through low income or unemployment.
